Check the listing for details. 1806-1906 Pike’s Peak Southwest Expedition Colorado Springs Silver Medal US Mint. Made in United States. Listed at 55.00 USD. These Pike’s Peak medals have a fascinating history. In 1955, 2,000 silver examples were discovered during demolition of the First National Bank in Colorado Springs. The loops were “expertly” removed to make the medals more desirable for collectors. It has been reported that 65% of all the original medals were looped. Designed by Charles Barber and struck at the US Mint in Philadelphia. Measures 34mm in diameter and weighs 18 grams. Made from silver with an oxidized finish, I believe it has a fineness of 0.900 which gives it an actual silver weight (ASW) of 16.2 grams or approximately 0.521 troy ounces. Please view all pictures and buy with confidence! Shipping USPS Ground Advantage for $4.99. Thanks for looking, be sure to check out my other medals and so-called dollars.
