Check the listing for details. 1832-1861 DOCTORS BILLS FOR DIFFERENT AILMENTS, TOOTH EXTRACTIONS & VACCINATIONS. Listed at 125.00 USD. We are offering 15 handwritten bills from doctors for the treatment of different patients, dating from 1832 to 1861. Also, there is a handwritten "recipe" for a medicinal mixture. **NOTE** - One of these bills was to a "Mr. Thrall", likely a descendant of William Thrall who established the Thrall family tobacco farm in Windsor, Connecticut in 1646. Ownership of the farm was passed down from parent to child over the centuries. 1., 2., 3., 4., & 5.) Five bills, dating from 1832 to 1852, from Dr. James Logie - for the treatment of different patients - John Spangler, Mrs. Gannin, Mr. Marien Crebs, Mrs. Crumpton and Joseph Manuel. The bills are for visits and medicine. One is for the vaccination of a husband, wife and three children [this would have been the smallpox vaccination, the only vaccine at that time, which was invented by Edward Jenner in the late 1700s]. 6.) A bill for the years 1839, 1841 and 1842 to P. P. W. Stephensen from Dr. Wm. McColy - for visits and medical attention to [Stephensen's] "bleeding" wife, an extraction of a tooth, and a visit to attend to a blister. 7.) An 1843 bill to Mr. George Longer from Dr. Daniel H. Lawrence - for Tutty and Cream of Tartar, and Arsnick [likely a misspelled word for arsenic, which was used in medicines in the 19th century] 8.) An 1844 bill paid by Jerome C. Chapman to Dr. Keale - for extraction of tooth of a "black" person named Demius. 9.) An 1845 bill from Dr. P. P. Stephenson to Mr. Francis Fitzsimmons - for visits and medicine for Miss Sophia Hilliand for six days from July 23rd to the 28th. Below the patient's name "Miss Sophia Hilliand", the doctor had written "Now his Wife". Apparently, Mr. Fitzsimmons married the woman either during or right after her treatments. 10.) An 1853/54 bill from Dr. Alabaugh to Mr. McGrigan? - for visits and medicine. 11.) An 1854 bill from Dr. A.G. Sumner in Mansfield, [Connecticut] - to Mr. Thrall for services to his daughters. **NOTE** - This man was likely a descendant of William Thrall who established the Thrall family tobacco farm in Windsor, Connecticut in 1646. Ownership of the farm was passed down from parent to child over the centuries. 12.) An 1854/1855 bill paid by George Konce to Dr. MacGregor? - for visits and medicine for his sister. 13.) An 1859 bill from Dr. Benjamin Franklin for tooth extractions for Sen't. [senator?] Charles and Sen't. [senator?] George Henry. 14. An 1859 receipt for payment from John G. Chapman in the amount of $60.50 - in payment of his medical account for the year 1859. 15.) An 1861 bill for paid to Dr. Henry C. Chapen by an unnamed person in Lincoln, Massachusetts - for 11 visits during the year 1860 for medical attention and medicine. 16.) There is also a "recipe" for a medicinal mixture of Sarsaparilla and Partridge Berry Oil dissolved in alcohol, and then boiled and strained. 6 tsp. of honey and 6 tsp. of sugar were added, and the mixture was boiled down to a syrup.
