Why Upgrade?The Daiwa BG reels are great spinning reels, but by default come with a plastic bushing instead of a bearing in the line roller. This plastic bushing is constantly exposed to water and debris from the fishing line and quickly starts to seize up if it's not regularly cleaned and re-lubricated with grease or oil. When this happens, the reel can feel less smooth, cause line twist, become noisy, or wear a small groove in the line roller (#J08-9902) which will eventually start cutting/fraying your line. One of the easiest things you can do to prevent this is to upgrade the bushing to a ball bearing to ensure the line roller continues to turn smoothly under load and not require as much maintenance. This is especially important if you fish saltwater as multiple components in the line roller assembly are prone to corrosion and sand. What are the Drawbacks?None!
