The body of this scribe is made from 1" X 3" 1018 steel round bar stock and has a 13/16" flat milled lengthwise. The cross bar is made from 1/2" X 2-1/2" 1018 steel round bar stock and has a 7/16" flat milled lengthwise. The crossbar is held in place by 1/4-20 hex head bolt. This bolt is solid brass so it will not chew up the surface of the steel crossbar when tightened down. The tungsten carbide rod is 1/8" diameter by a full 1-1/2" long solid carbide. This rod has been professionally ground. One end of the carbide rod has a perfect very sharp 60 degree point and the back end has a slight chamfer. The carbide rod is held in place in the cross bar by a solid brass thumb screw. This is a well made rugged scribe that can be used on the round or flat side of the body. It can even be used as a center scribe down to 1/16" as is. With a simple flat angle grind on the backside of the carbide rod, you could flip the rod over and use this as a center scribe down to zero. Made in the USA in a Small New Hampshire Shop.
