Magnificent Old Sheffield plate large swing-handled basket dating to the George III period. Oblong everted body and raised on a low pedestal foot, with a gadrooned upper body, and threaded handle with foliate junctions. The edge of the bowl is trimmed with a gadrooned border that is decorated with anthemion motifs and shells in typical Regency style. I believe these applied decorations and trim are sterling. The piece measures 13-3/8” long, 10” wide, 4-1/2” tall (10-1/2”tall with the handle up). As normal with a piece of such age, there has been re-plating in spots, which leaves a slight difference in color, and there are some dings, as shown in the photos.
