This note from the October 18, 1776 Massachusetts issue is commonly referred to as a “Codfish” note, due to the codfish on the upper boarder of the front. The backs of these bills, featuring a pine tree were printed by John Gill, and the more ornate front was engraved and printed by Paul Revere.
