Material100% Pure Copper Volume 1 lb 2 lb 3 lb Size 5" wide Description Shipping Information Copper mesh is often considered a required type of packing for reflux still columns, as it not only has a high surface area to aid in increasing the alcohol percentage in your vapor, but the ability to react with and remove sulfides. Our copper mesh has multiple very fine strands (see pictures) woven together to create the highest surface area per pound of any copper mesh on the market. Additionally, we list it by the pound, as weight is the only way to tell what you are actually getting. Most other listing have listed it by the foot to try and convince people they are getting more for their money, but a much more loosely woven copper mesh can easily stretch farther and have less surface area than the same weight of another vendor's mesh. The only true way to tell what you are getting is by weight, so be wary of listings that don't include the weight! The copper mesh should last a good long time, but it will react with the sulfides and start turning a dark grey/black color. Once you can no longer see any copper color, you can renew it by soaking it overnight in a solution of citric acid and water. As the sulfides react with the copper mesh, you will eventually use it all and have to replace it. While your mileage may vary, as a starting point we typically recommend 2L of raschig rings and 1-2 lb of copper for use in our 2" reflux stills and 3L of raschig rings with 2-3 lb of copper mesh in our 3" reflux stills.
