Available are two front pages that came from a September 5, 6, 1936 editions of Kansas City Star newspapers. The pages contains stories about Beryl Markham's successful end to the West to East transatlantic flight by crashing in a Novia Scotia bog. The September 6th front page contains the story of the flight in Markham's own words. Beryl Markham was an English-born Kenyan aviator (one of the first bush pilots), adventurer, racehorse trainer and author. She was the first person to fly solo, non-stop across the Atlantic from Britain to North America. She wrote about her adventures in her memoir, West with the Night.ConditionThe newspaper pages are in good condition. The newspaper pages originally came from a bound library volume and may exhibit slight chipping and paper loss on the edges.
