Indian elephant combination-dagger, known as ankus or Indian elephant goad from South India, 19th century. Carried by a elephant driver (Mahout), the pointed tip and dual elephant trunk shaped protrusion to the face is double edged and inlaid in silver decoration. The shaft has a series of iron rings and at the base features a pommel in brass. Carved brass pommel is in the shape of a lion head with a smaller lion protruding in pierced carving. The pommel can be unscrewed from the shaft revealing a stiletto like four sided blade for puncturing. Size overall 18 7/8" L, blade 6 1/2" H x 5 1/2" W
