Agate is one of the most common materials used in the art of hard-stone carving and are used to make ornaments such as pins, brooches or other types of jewellery, Most agates occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or ancient lava's. Agate naturally forms in many different but faint colours. Due to its porous nature it is often artificially dyed to enhance its natural colour. This Agate Slice is 'Dyed'. Diamond saws are used to cut the Agate into slices which are then ground to remove any imperfections, then polished and dyed to help enhance and display the beautiful natural banding within.
