Nov. 14 - 82 (Patent Dates: Applied: Sep. 09, 1882 Granted: Nov. 14, 1882 ) I think after looking at the patent pictures that the tool crimps the bottom of a button to hold it in place on a garment or shoes It has a jaw with a spring loaded holding device that has a lever to open it's jaw the anvil piece on the lower jaw also looks spring loaded all of these crimping parts appear to be complete and in good working condition The sides and handles have a shine so I suspect they are quality high nickel metal Overall they are approx. 8 1/2" long, they are a high quality antique tool hopefully someone can put them to good use!..............
