Check the listing for details. Antique Grain Painted Blanket Chest c. 1850. Color: orange yellow grain painted. Listed at 355.00 USD. the item being sold here is the blanket chest under the smaller chest which is being sold on a separate listing - this is a beautiful grain painted country type c.1850 blanket chest hand made of white pine - it is smaller than most country blanket chests measuring only 37" long by 18" high by 20" wide - it has very tight hand cut dovetail joints on each corner of the chest - the chest has lovely hand grain painted yellow-orange speckled colors that are still vivid on all three sides where the back of the blanket chest was grain painted in "flaming" orange & yellow & black colors - this "flaming" grain painting on the back of the chest is quite unusual as most country blanket chests are simply left unpainted - this blanket chest would look great in a country type setting from all angles - the top of the chest is more subdued than the rest of the chest with darker grain painting than the front, sides, & back of the chest - the chest has original cast iron hinges which open & close very well - the chest has a sheet steel locking mechanism (I don't have its key, but, I'm sure the lock would work with a key) the inside of the chest has a "till box", but the top of the "till box" has cracked & broken loose - the inside of the chest is very clean considering its age & has no unpleasant aromas - the white pine bottom is secured to the body of the chest with antique cut square headed iron nails & is quite secure - the grain painted surface has a number of scratches, dings & scuffs which would be considered normal wear & tear for an antique blanket chest between 150 - 170 years old - the top shows the most wear of the entire piece - this blanket chest will have to be picked up at my home in Swanzey, NH due the high cost of having the chest shipped -
