These are NOS beech wood handguards made by Fazakerley post war for the No4 rifle series (fits all mk1, mk1*, mk2, mk1/3): Blonde Beech made by Fazakerely (mostly F59 marks on the upper and under surfaces) - these are unsooted and are factory finished to a bright yellow luster - which contrasts with the jet black metal fittings - as used on some FTR rifles in the 1950s and the famous "Irish and RAF" contract mk2 Rifles. Sooted Beech made by Poole post war (single large P on the underside) - this is the first original step to make beech pieces stainable to mix with walnut during the war effort - the soot clings into the grain darkening the tone - these pieces have not been polished or oiled so are an excellent base to take stain to match darker woods.
