Harvested, processed and hand crafted by myself These Cedar spindles are carefully processed and handcrafted. Each spindle that comes with your order will be unique and won't exactly be the same length or the same size. The bow drill is an ancient tool used to make friction fire. The bow drill consists of a bearing block or handhold, a spindle or drill, a hearth or fireboard, and a simple bow. As the word 'Primitive Fire' implies, I personally harvested the cedar wood from Dixie National Forest then hand processed and crafted each cedar wood spindle or drill by hand to make it feel as if you yourself were out in the wilderness and had to make your own spindle to use with your bow drill to make fire. They won't look or feel like you bought them from a store or that they came out of a factory or woodshop. The bow drill offers an ancient and primitive method of starting fire without matches or a lighter. It’s a method that applies friction to generate heat. The heat eventually produces an ember in the burnt wood dust. The ember is tiny and fragile. Once it is formed it is carefully placed into a "tinder bundle" where it is carefully nurtured and coaxed into flame. Once the tinder bundle bursts into flame, it is placed into the fuel that has been assembled ready for ignition. About your Bow Drill Spindle made from Cedar Wood:These Wood Drills or Spindles are made from Cedar. They are carefully hand-crafted and sun dried to make sure they are as straight as possible and that they will rotate nicely with very little wobble, if any, when spinning. Each spindle has been tested and burnt in to make sure that they will work properly when used to make a coal ember. If for some reason you need to start a fire right away and don't have the time to start one using the bow drill you can do the following. Cedar wood has its own natural oil so if you're skilled with your knife, you can use it to scrape fine dust from the spindle and very lightly carve very thin curly curls like you see in the photos. You can also use a broken piece of glass or something similar to do this just be careful not to cut yourself accidentally. You can then ignite the cedar wood dust and thin curly curl mound using a ferrocerium rod. What you will receive with your purchase:Two Cedar Wood spindle that are already burnt in to make sure they burn and spin properly.Item Specifics:Material: Cedar Length: About 8-9 inchesCheck out my other items: Click here to see all of my e-Bay items
