I first thought it was a sabot from a 6.34 shell as it's iron . But it's bigger then that and anything bigger would most likely been wooden. As with the pics you can clearly see the S , most likely US but who knows it may have been C S Like myself , everyone I talk to believes some sort of part of cookware, maybe a top to a pot? Anyway with the S on it , in Sarif writing a unique part of civil war history as everyone has said. The other piece dug along with it and hand forged and drilled may have been part of it . Some sort of handle as it's heavy duty.
