WHY: Lincoln pennies have plenty of age and history to them and still are being produced, yet those in circulation for a long time and therefore not in new condition are mostly inexpensive. A beginner (especially a youngster) can easily add to this starter set without significant cost. The coins needed to complete a book such as this (except for the key coins) can easily be found at coin shows or coin stores or from a trade partner. For historical purposes (as well as intrigue), some of these coins are more than 100 years old. Someone could collect these same dates and mint marks somewhat less expensively, but it is nice to have something to be proud of right away. We have put the coins into a Whitman folder, and have included some of the early dates such as 1909, 1910 and 1912. Great educational opportunity by studying the grading of the coins. This book, which is approximately half filled already, goes from 1909 to 1940, then the new collector can acquire books for the more recent years.
