Commemorative Token 1905 Saskatchewan CANADA Sometime during the summer of 1690, in east-central Saskatchewan, Englishmen Henry Kelsey and his Indian escorts walked out of the boreal forest and into a new world -- the northern great plains of western Canada. It was a landscape never encountered before by another European.Englishman Henry Kelsey (1667–1724), was the first European, to visit this area, and arrived in 1690. Other European explorers also soon arrived followed by fur traders such as The Governor and Company of Adventurers of England trading into Hudson's Bay and North West Company. Clifford Sifton, Minister of the Interior in charge of immigration, (1896–1905) induced a variety of agriculturally inclined European emigrants to Canada to settle prairie land around the transcontinental railway. The political boundaries of this area have changed several times evolving through Rupert's Land, Provisional Districts of the North West Territories, and finally a province, Saskatchewan become province of Canada since 1905.OBVERSE: Prairie lily flower with bilingual English/French name above and belowLettering: PRAIRIE LILY LIS DE LA PRAIRIEREVERSE: Shield of Saskatchewan with name and dateLettering: SASKATCHEWAN 19 05 SASKATCHEWANEDGE: SmoothMint: Private mint, CanadaMintage in ND (1965-1968) UnknownCountry Canada Type Commemorative Years 1965-1968Currency Promotional TokensComposition Brass plated zincWeight 12 gSize 31.5 mmThickness 2 mmShape RoundOrientation Medal alignment ↑↑
