It should however, allow the needle to glide smoothly through it.If the packing is too loose, you will see a small amount of paint where the needle passes through the small needle packing nut.If the needle is too tight, paint will spurt out of the fluid nozzle when you release the trigger.If you change to a larger or smaller needle, one of these needles could be slightly oversized and the other slightly undersized in diameter resulting in adjusting the needle packing.The Simple FixHow to adustIf You want to adjust the needle packing nut do so in very small increments.Just imagine that one full turn of the needle packing nut is an hour then you subtly adjust this nut one minute at a time (a 60th of a turn). Make sure that there is water in the cup of your gun, and follow the steps below.1) Make sure to dry the tip of the fluid nozzle with a rag, and turn the needle packing nut counter clockwise one minute. The adjustment should be counter clockwise when your spray gun is leaking from the nozzle, or clockwise when your spray gun is leaking from the needle packing nut. 2) Pull the trigger and spray.
