In 1961 Carl Goldberg introduced his Hi-Thrust VIKING 1/2A free flight design that changed the whole concept of free flight models forever. It later became a kit for Goldberg Models. Many years ago Pop enjoyed building and flying them. He covered his in red tissue and used a TD .049 for power. What a machine this is! This HI-THRUST VIKING set of PLANS was obtained back then (as well as the plans + construction article for Carl's FAI VIKING for a .15 engine that I sell separately). They are as fine a set of PLANS as you will ever find. The wing span is 48". The plan shows a Holland Hornet .049 but Hornets are hard to find on eBay. For many, the Cox T.D. 049 proved more dependable than the Hornet and you'll find T.D.s offered on eBay more often. The main thing to note about this design, aside from its innovation of hi-thrust power, was that Carl put many wing and stab ribs in his designs to prevent wing flutter or twisting under power. That can't be said about some of the other great 1/2A free flight plans I have in my collection. Every single parts pattern is shown on these PLANS. (Also, at the same time as the development of this VIKING Carl helped another modeler, Jess Krieser, develop the beautiful "CUTIE" Ephemeris of the same size but with a few differences. It has upthrust, as was sometimes needed on the VIKING. My last picture shows the construction article and the plan for that model that I offer separately.)
