Hanwei - Tinker bastard sword Hanwei - Tinker bastard sword Michael Tinker Pearce has designed a series of swords manufactured by Hanwei in 5160 steel, emphasizing authenticity, functionality and performance. To meet the combat and cutting needs of Western martial artists, each of the 7 styles is manufactured in live (sharp) and combat (blunt) versions and each sword has outstanding handling characteristics. The carefully controlled heat treatment of 5160 steel (Tinkers preferred sheet steel) through the marking process produces an excellent combination of toughness and flexibility with a hardness of HRC 50-52. Spare blades are available for all swords in the series; a key feature of Tinkers designs is the interchangeability of blades within each pair of swords with the exception of the Viking, allowing the user to purchase a full sword and spare blade to enjoy both versions. Long swords, bastard swords and early medieval swords feature Tinkers built-in sleeve nut mounting system, which provides secure grip retention, tightening and easy blade exchange using the Allen wrench provided. Hand and middle swords are designed to make sharp and blunt versions work identically, offering combat and cutting with swords that feel and respond in the same way. The sharp sword is produced in two different versions, one diamond section and the other identical but complete at approximately one third of its length. The wheel-shaped knob is sized to provide a grip for the second hand, the narrowing straight cross section provides excellent hand protection.
