Check the listing for details. HELIOPLANE PLAN + CONSTRUCTION ARTICLE for 29" Span FF / UC / RC Model Airplane. Condition: New. Listed at 14.95 USD. I AM NOT SELLING A KIT, only a new, full-size copy of a 1953 Air Trails PLAN & construction article for Henry Struck's 29" FF scale model of the HELIOPLANE STOL (short takeoff & landing). When I arrived at U.S. Army flight school in 1960s to learn to fly the Cessna L-19 Bird Dog and deHavilland BEAVER, I noticed on the flight line another STOL bird that was called the HELIOPLANE. The Army had bought one for extensive testing as a possible replacement for the venerable L-19. (The idea was to develop a spotter aircraft that was as versatile as the German FIESELER FI 156 STORCH in World War II.) The HELIOPLANE had a 9' propeller that was turned over by multiple V-belts at 1200 RPMs as compared to the 2150 RPMs of the Bird Dog. It would jump off the ground in a shorter distance but the maintenance would have been a nightmare. The inventory was full of L-19s so the HELIOPLANE had too much catching up to do to replace them. This is a nice stable flying Henry Struck design for free flight or UC that is easy to construct. It called for an O.K. Cub .039 or K & B Torp .035. Today a Cox Pee Wee .02 or electric equivalent will do fine. My last picture is from a Berkeley kit ad. I sell the Berkeley PLAN + parts patterns separately.
