Howard Whalen, Sierra Madre, CA 1913-1982 This Detroit born, renowned sculptor, artist and actor created a sculpture garden and studio after he moved to CA in the 1940's. Prior to that he studied at Cranbrook Art Academy, worked on a federal art project and taught clay modeling at the University of Michigan. After his death, his Sierra Madre studio with its sculpture garden continued with the help of his admirers until recently-see last 2 photos. Selling one of his glaze samples in glossy black, marked IGL on the back. It is in great condition and measures 1 3/4" x 2" x 1/2" thick. See our other Howard Whalen listings.
