These Chicken Saddles or Wing Protectors are the perfect accessories for your feathered friend! Designed to protect your hen's back or wings from being spurred and scratched by roosters when mating, giving hens the protection they need to regrow missing feathers. I personally designed, tested, and handmade these protectors to ensure their effectiveness! These protectors feature 3 layers of breathable, quilted fabric protection and a reversible, coordinating design. The straps are movable so you can easily dress your hen and allow a prolonged, comfortable fit. The cross straps on the saddle mean this protection is there to stay and will be held in place through high winds, overzealous roosters, sand baths, and preening. To dress your hen in the Saddle - -While holding your hen, gently put her head between both straps and the fabric, so that the straps cross on the chest of the hen and the fabric is on the hen's back. -Take one strap and gently guide it from the top of the saddle, across your hen's chest, to behind the opposite thigh by placing your hen's foot though the strap. Repeat with the other strap. - Gently pull your hen's wings through the sides to free them. The straps should sit at an X on the hen's chest, BELOW her crop, and should span from the top of the wing to behind the opposite thigh. -Ensure that the front elastic straps cross each other on the chest BENEATH your hen's crop. Adjust until the saddle fits comfortably. To dress your hen in the Wing Protector - -While holding your hen, place the wing protector on the hen's back with the straps down. -Pull one strap and gently ease it around the hen's corresponding wing then pull the entire wing through gently, ensuring the entire strap is clear of all wing feathers. Repeat with the other wing. Your hen may take a few minutes to adjust to the sensation of the saddle and the wing protector and the straps. She may walk backwards, crouch low, and hop. Rest assured, she will preen them to comfort and be grateful for the protection, growing her feathers back in no time!
