The note is introduced by the Reserve Bank of India in 1969 and bears the signature of Bhaskar Namdeo Adarkar. It is a green, light blue, purple, orange, and brown note that measures 118 mm x 63 mm. Its obverse side shows the lion capital of Ashoka pillar. Its reverse side depicts a seated Gandhi reading a book at the Sabarmati Ashram and the RBI seal. Security features include a solid security thread and a watermark of the lion capital of Ashoka pillar, a vertical RBI, and a 5. The note was eventually withdrawn.
