They are made from high carbon steel which is much better for cutting than any stainless steel. They do oxidize though. I have filed through the rust. The wood and metal have been oiled. I used linseed oil on everything then an oil-wax combo on the wood. The hoop has been set and the blade sharpened and is very sharp. It has a 19mm blade and is about 7 inches long. I made a walnut handle for this chisel. It has the blacksmith’s signature.
