They take an incredibly sharp edge. They are made from high carbon steel which is much better for cutting than any stainless steel. They do oxidize though. I have filed through the rust. The wood and metal have been oiled. I used linseed oil on everything then an oil-wax combo on the wood. The hoop has been set and the blade sharpened and is very sharp. It has a 41mm blade and is about 11 inches long. This is a heavy duty chisel with a thick shaft and large blade/ It has the blacksmith’s signature.
