Check the listing for details. Lectrolite Defiance SP8 8 Inch Stillson-Pattern Pipe Wrench mid-20th Century. Condition: Used. Listed at 25.00 USD. The Lectrolite Corporation of Defiance, Ohio, was closely associated with S-K Tools during the 1950s and 1960s, but operated successfully and independently in the 1930s and 1940s. During the company’s existence it was a significant contract manufacturer. It was easy for Lectrolite to forge tools with their names, no name or the name of as contracting company such as Sears/Craftsman. Like many other tool manufacturers Lectrolite contracted for tools from competitors. This Stillson-Pattern Wrench was produced by J.P. Danielson, a major manufacturer of such Wrenches. It’s Date Code forged into the tail end of the Dynamic Jaw, A-10-9, (see images) confirms it. Unfortunately the Date Code’s meaning can easily be misunderstood. Consult Alloy Artifacts (http://alloy-artifacts.org/danielson-jp-company.html#dates) for an extended discussion. Tools manufactured by Lectrolite during the 1930s and 40s can often be identified by the presence of “Defiance, Ohio” forged into the tool. Usually, these tools also have some reference to the alloy composition of the steel, signifying a higher quality tool. Score one for DEFIANCE OHIO” and one for “FORGED ALLOY” (see images). The Wrench appears in the 1955 catalog; "Lectrolite Tools: Catalog Number 655 by Lectrolite Corp." (https://archive.org/details/lectrolitetoolscatalogno655/page/n13/mode/2up?view=theater). Our best guess for this Wrench is late 1940s, early 50s. The Wrench is in fully functional condition. The adjustment is smooth, the jaws’ teeth are sharp and the spring is properly resistant. It shows heavy use, but no misuse or abuse. We did only superficial cleaning of the Wrench and it looks good. Further cleaning might lead to a full restoration if it’s going to be added to a Show-and-Tell Collection. We will ship the Wrench by USPS 1st Class Mail on the next regular business day following receipt of payment.
