The obverse side shows the seated Moshoeshoe I holding (knobkierie); a coat of arms with a crocodile on a shield flanked by Basotho horses, an agave plant and flowers as a registration device, an outline Basotho shield, and lance (assegai) and club (knobkierie). The reverse side shows an agave plant and flowers, mountains, huts, cattle, smiling young boy wearing a hat. It has a variety of security threads, and the watermark has a coat of arms design.
