This striking and very unusual plant sends up one flower head after another, shooting up over ten feet. Each bristling cone puts out a continuous spray of flame orange petals over a number of weeks and the whole display goes until frost. The plant is said to have medicinal value as well, and the sweet petals are used to make teas. The seed can be direct sown or will self-sow once the weather warms, and the flower stalks begin their magic in late July or August. I often plant them indoors here to get an early start. Plenty of tiny seeds in a packet.
