Check the listing for details. Long Japanese Paring Chisel/Slick (Tsukinomi). Condition: Used. Listed at 314.15 USD. Long Japanese Paring Chisel/Slick (Tsukinomi). Long Japaneseparing chisel or slick (tsukinomi).Blade measures 24 mm wide (just shy of 1 in.) and is a little over 4 ½ in.long. Overall length is about 22 ¾ in. Theblade has a maker’s mark, which I am unable to decipher. It also has the tokkyu toroku (special grade, registered) stamp found on high-quality chisels from Japan. Tsukinomi (“push chisels”) are not meantto be struck with a mallet or hammer. They are used for the cleaning up and finalfitting of joints. The longer version, like the one on offer here, is typicallyused in timber-frame construction. The long handle allows for two-handed use.If needed, you can even lean into it with your shoulder when trimming a deephorizontal mortise, such as those for the through-post ties (nuki) found in traditional Japanesepost-and-beam architecture.
