And now I find long, thin layers of carbonized material (sometimes interesting petrified tree branches and smaller pieces of petrified wood) in the lower eagle ford near the woodbine formation. I have attached a photo showing the exact spot in a creek where this layer is exposed. Fossilized oysters and occasionally ammonites can be found as well as vertebrate material. This small piece has been coated 3x with a satin polyurethane in order to preserve the piece and prevent it from quickly falling apart, which I find tends to happen after a few days or weeks if left untreated. I can’t guarantee how long it will remain in the current form and several months or years from now it may require additional coatings or perhaps something like paraloid.
