Scarce Marples M603, 3/4", Vintage Splitproof Mortice Chisel, Hand Forged in Sheffield England. The transparent, emerald green handle is rotated by 90 degrees, in this model, to make levering easier. This specialist chisel is around 40 years old and was manufactured just after the Marples Shamrock branding was discontinued by Record. The earliest Record Marples chisels had 'Record Marples" moulded into the handle. I had been aware of all the other variants of Marples splitproof chisels, a couple of years before I even learned these existed! This one is unused, with its original, grey ribbed edge guard. It is sharp, with the original factory grind.
