It has a separate corkscrew that fits into slot.It is operated by inserting the corkscrew into the cork in the bottle and placing it in the bracket. The top of the bottle is held in place at the bottom by a ring and the ratchet action pulls the bar up, which also pulls the corkscrew with it while holding the bottle in place. There is a geared ratchet that provides he leverage to exert enough force to remove the cork.The cast iron opener is mounted on a wood board for the wall.The iron has surface rust, which could be polished or oiled if that is the preferred look you want.
