When combustible liquid fuels such as alcohol, carbide-acetylene, natural gas, kerosene and naptha became available, new types of irons were invented. In 1903, John C. Lake was issued a patent for an iron using liquid hydrocarbon such as unleaded white gasoline. One of their irons was called the “Monitor” which he continued to improve on at various intervals - the one shown here is Model C with a blue green wood handle.
