It was important during the Cold War and was even a NASA Abort Landing site in the 1980s. Airlift and fighter rotations were flown out of Morón in 1983 in support of operation in and over Iraq. In 2015 the USA was granted permanent presence and can maintain up to 3000 military and civilian personnel there and as many as 40 aircraft. This Coffee Mug was apparently purchased there. The original stock sticker is intact and mostly legible (see images). We have no idea why a Marine was stationed there (or when) and the Marine might not have known either. The military can be like that. My two years, nine months and twenty-eight days in the Army in the mid 1960s gives me a perspective. The Mug has a pleasing and slightly unusual shape. It was personalized by Cerámicas Cartagena a company specializing in promotional and corporate gifts since 1986, according to its website. It’s substantial, well finished and shows little or no evidence of use and certainly no misuse. Except for the condition of the holographic stock sticker the Mug is almost pristine.
