During WWII the Navy's District Rail Transportation Coordinator received several new 36-inch gauge diesel-electric locomotives to speed the flow of military cargo on Oahu. Pictured here in 1945 in Honolulu's Iwilei Yard is D.R.T.C. #8, a brand-new 300-horsepower, 45-ton locomotive built by the Whitcomb Locomotive Works of Rochelle, Illinois, in December of 1944. The word "copyright" does not appear on the card itself.
