The polka-dot has a rather interesting origin, being made during the renovation of a polish dance called the “Polka” This dance was obviously popular in its homeland of Poland but when the dance made its way into the USA and Europe during the 1800’s, it took the world by storm. To help guide newcomers on the space of this dance and the movements of such rugs and mats were made in a perfect circle to guide the new dancers. Then in 1835 and unknown Polish women decided to use the plain and colorful circle design the “dots” brought to her workshop and she painted them around her.
