In communication with ARGOS satellite, SeaTag MOD reports data containing location, time, temperature, depth, and acceleration. The solar powered tag harvests energy from the sun and stores into a super capacitor. When solar power is unavailable, there are battery options for the tag to retain energy. At the end of the period, the MOD releases from the observed animal by a microburst in the release section and floats to the surface. The MOD is reusable since the release section is a separate unit from the tag. With supporting software (SeaDock, SeaWatch, SeaTrack) the data can be retrieved, decoded, and ready to be analyzed. SeaTag MOD is one of the several tags that make up Desert Star System’s line of animal tags and micro-observation stations developed for NOAA under the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program.
