The PEZ dispenser issued as a marketing gimmick to sell PEZ candy came out in 1955. A few advertising promo versions started the craze. A full body Santa was issued, but for the longest time, the "Regular" dispenser was the staple. It came in different varieties and colors and even different patents, but the look stayed the same. In 1991, a Silver Metallic Regular (Silver Glow) was released to celebrate the opening of the new Hungary plant. In 1995, a new color scheme was issued: Red, White, Blue, Yellow, Magenta, Pink and Silver. The silver in this issue is not metallic and looks rather grey. In 1999 a Japanese series was issued with 5 colors: White, Pink, Black, non-metallic Silver, and non-metallic Gold. In 2003, a retro color scheme version was issued with 6 color schemes. A Golden Glow (shiny metallic) was offered as a premium as in honor of the first PEZ dispenser. This listing is for the 4.9 Regulars issued between 1991 and 2003.
