Used for cut celery stalks on a dining room table, or as a “spill”, kept on a fireplace mantle with small sticks or rolled pieces of paper to catch fire and light candles, pipes, etc. Flint glass is crude leaded glass. It went out with the Civil War as lead was used for military purposes. “Pressed” glass took it’s place, and lead crystal came later. Flint glass will have a greenish glow under a black light.
