For your consideration is this Rare Antique Original Chromed Cast Iron Flat Iron These original chromed irons are hard to come by. These were made in the 1920's or 1930's, but many found the additional cost of the chromium plated irons was not justifiable since the non-plated ones ironed just as well, not to mention the onset and effect of the Great Depression in the same time period. At the time this item would have been fully chrome plated, but the migration of heat upwards has taken it's toll on the upper part of the iron, under the handle and it is back down to it's original cast iron base metal. However this contrast really makes the piece "pop". The piece is in very good shape considering it's age and usage, there is obvious rub wear on the sole plate, but the chrome has not been worn through at any point there. The handle is solid metal as well and still firmly affixed to the iron base. The handle is all chromed as well, but does have heat damage at the lower ends, which can be clearly seen in the photographs. This iron is about 7 1/4" from tip to butt and about 3 3/4" across, at the widest point.Laying flat it stands about 3 1/2" from the sole plate to the top of the handle.Sitting upright it is about 7", due to the tilt.The item weighs about 5 pounds.
