Check the listing for details. RARE SIMPLEX Job Cost Recorder. Condition: Used. Listed at 260.00 USD. This is a Simplex Job Cost Recorder (not a Time Clock). When bought in October 2002, I thought it was a time clock WITH a key. I plugged it in & it ran fine and printed on a piece of cardboard when I pushed it into the slot. I just set it on a shelf until I thought about selling it earlier this year. Only then did I unlock it and realize it was a cost recorder, something I had never heard of. A search on eBay came up empty. There were numerous Simplex Time Clocks in various conditions, some with a key, but no Cost Recorders. A Google search produced no Cost Recorders but did find a September 2012 NAWCC forum discussion of a supposed Simplex Time Clock that was recognized by a member as actually being a Job Cost Recorder. Although short and a bit confusing, the forum did provide insights into various Simplex Cost Recorder models. Three models were discussed in the forum, the TCP, the TCF and the TCG. The TCF was introduced in 1931. The TCP and TCG were likely introduced at the same time, certainly by the late 1930's or very early 1940's. The TCP was used primarily by the USPS and in hazardous locations since there was no spark from the print contacts. My sister remembers that TCP's were in use by the USPS until about 1983. The TCF had a "push plate" on the front to trigger printing, while the TCG was the automatic print version (you still have to push a card into the slot to trigger the print). The Cost Recorder for sale is a model TCG 11R4, Serial #114579-79 made in1979. It is in extremely good condition (please carefully view the pictures). The clock runs very well, the print function is very good, and the printed information is readable (the black and red ribbon is OK but will soon need to be replaced). There are some chips in the paint and some rust around the edge of the base. There are no dents and very few scratches in the paint. The inside of the case and the movement are clean with only a very little rust at the inside bottom edge. The 4-inch off-white/ivory colored dial is clean with only a few very small chips. Black Arabic numbers and black hands. There is no instruction manual. I do not know how to read/decipher the printed information to determine job cost or how to reset the mechanism when another job is started. I believe that this job cost recorder is all original with the exception of the cord which had been replaced prior to my purchase. 12 9/16 inches tall 11 inches wide 7 3/8 inches deep Approximately 28 pounds 8 foot 7 inch cord with grounded plug.
