This is something you may be asking yourself if you've never purchased a hoop online before. Each has their respective benefits. Polypro/HDPE hoops - "offbody": They are very lightweight and springy. The lighter the hoop, the harder the spinner has to push it around so it offers the maximum caloric workout! It is great for doing tricks or tosses because it is small and springy. PE hoops - "onbody" These are heavier hoops which make learning hooping a bit easier. If you cannot keep up a store-bought hoop or never learned to hoop before I recommend a PE hoop (black 1" OD tubing). This will get you started with the movement and then you can get a Polypro/HDPE to drill in the fast hooping if that is what you desire. Many customers of mine are happy sticking with a PE hoop since it is a great core workout and like the massaging effect of the larger/heavier hoop.
