SABLE GUARDIA CIVIL 1844 (FOUNDATIONAL) SABLE GUARDIA CIVIL 1844 (FOUNDATIONAL) This Sword of Mount Model 1844 is included within the group of Arms of Spain where the Shield flanked by the initials G.C. reproduces the emblem of a Corps, with garrison of three hawks manufactured specifically for Officers of the Civil Guard. Recently created the Corps of the Civil Guard under the direction of the Duke of Ahumada, the first rule on the use and adjudication of knives was dictated where it was provided that for the infantry forces a «Saber of those used by the Army Infantry» was adopted while for those of Cavalry, a «Sword of the Line» was assigned. (Circular 4/08/1846) By foundational order it was planned to provide all the Civil Guards of Cavalry or Infantry with their corresponding saber (R.O.25/08/1848) and the Duke of Ahumada, in 1850, dictated that the orders were made directly by the heads of the Thirds to the Factory of Toledo and that it was observed if they carried the true motto of the establishment because «in many workshops of the foreign kingdom they are falsified by putting the label of the Factory of Toledo» From then on, swords and sabers were designed and manufactured to be carried by the Civil Guards. Consequently with the above, the «Mounting Sword model 1844 for Civil Guard Officer» was one of the first bladed weapons of the Civil Guard Corps manufactured in the prestigious White Weapons Factory of Toledo.
