During the 1970s, theSmithsonian Institution issued a limited number of authenticated fabric relics taken from historically significant aircraft in their collection. These were made available to collectors and aviation enthusiasts through the Smithsonian, but after only a few years, the museum deeply regretted parting with the original aircraft materials, and the program was permanently discontinued.
