A sliding switch on the probe body selects 1X or 10X attenuation. This 1X-10X switch allows the user to switch in and out a decade of sensitivity without returning to the test instrument. Attenuation may be arbitrarily switched from 1X to 10X to evaluate the effects of loading of the oscilloscope on the circuit under test. The probe provides readout coding for oscilloscopes which have readout capability. The readout changes with the probe attenuation switch so the correct attenuation setting is always displayed on the oscilloscope. A pushbutton is provided for actuating a ground reference. The ground reference can be used as a means of trace identification for a multitrace display.
