Check the listing for details. Three World War II Letters from Navy Man - Robert Pittman. Listed at 27.99 USD. This is a group of 3 letters from Robert Tipton in the Navy to Miss Willa Mae Crea at Wexford, PA. All three letters are sent air mail and bear stamps that they had been passed by the naval censor. The first letter is postmarked Jan. 29, 1944. Apparently Robert worked in some kind of Mill with Willa Mae because he mentions it more than once. He also mentions that he is in Cuba but can't offer more on that subject. He seems homesick and writes, "You know Willa Mae, I use to write letters when I was back home and receive them but it didn't mean much to me then but since I have been in the Navy and most of all out of the states for six months, I have found out what letters really mean and that is everything to all of us fellows and I'm not kidding." He also asks Willa Mae who her boyfriend is and wants to know if a mutual friend got a kiss from a girl. The second letter is postmarked Apr. 24, 1944 and was typed the same day. He seems to remain homesick, "I had to join the navy to find out how much home means to a person and now I know." He also explains the typing is because he is trying to make a rate and has to be able to type to get it. He still is deftly interested in Willa Mae's social life but is quite delicate in his questions. In the last letter, postmarked Nov. 7, 1944, "Bob" is complaining about having to train a new yeoman. He also speaks a lot about the weather and the friends that they worked with at home. All of the letters are in good condition. All of our items are sanitized before shipping.
