The size of this patch is 3.5" x 3".The C-123 was a widely used aircraft throughout the Vietnam war, primarily used for the landing of US Special Forces units. The aircraft with powerful engines was capable of short landing and take-off operations into restricted jungle areas. It was also used for the para-dropping of Special Forces Personnel into Laos and Cambodia. The C-123 was the most widely used aircraft in the spraying of Agent Orange in Operation Ranch Hand The C-123 was used, initially via landing and later by parachute drop to re-supply the USMC during the siege of Khe Sanh. The C-123 and it's pilot were respsonsible for the rescue of US Special Forces Operatives during the VC Assault on the Special Forces base at Kham Duc in May 1968. Candlestick operations were a primary role of the C-123 in it's 'Forward Air Control' ( FAC ) activities were they would drop flares into enemy strongholds and along enemy transport paths directing allied aircraft and artillery fire into these locations.
