Not all the SX70's had the autofocus Sonar integrated. (sonar is the feature that autofocuses the camera by sonar electronic signals that accurately measures the focus distance). There is a bit of corrosion from a leaking battery, I cleaned the contacts as best as possible and the flash charges and fires like normal. The Camera uses Polaroid (or other makers) Instant color SX70 series film. The film pack has the battery that fires and ejects the film. The flash has it's own batteries. As I had mentioned. So, alkaline batteries have a very short life span and only get slower and deplete really fast. The best option is using rechargeable NiMH AA's (Nickel Metal Hydride). They can re-charge over and over again and give more flashes per charge than the Alkaline.
