This vintage 19th century American sterling silver compote was beautifully designed by the Whiting Silver Co.. The fine quality sterling compote is of superior artistic design & finishing, featuring a decorative motif of multiple precisely pierced panels of elaborate dimensional scrolls, garlands & roses outlining its round center. A silver pedestal stand supports the exquisitely executed dish.The base/stand is stamped with the Whiting hallmark, a lion holding a shield with the letter W. Also, there is "STERLING", 5164, 925/1000 FINE.The compote is in very good to excellent condition. 5 1/16" tall X 9 3/8" diameterSterling: 17 oz.
